Intermodal Distressed Shipment Charges
When an improperly blocked and braced shipment is found, BNSF Loading and Shipment Safety (LARS) will inspect the shipment, arrange for a timely resolution, and contact the Shipper with the root cause of the problem. (See the Shipment Adjustments Item in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide .)
The shipper will be responsible for charges if resolution requires BNSF to contact outside vendors to lift a distressed shipment from a railcar and adjust/transload the contents of a distressed shipment. These charges (below) will be assessed the Shipper for services performed addressing Shipper responsibility incidents en-route. Services required to address distressed shipments at an intermodal facility will be invoiced on a direct cost basis. Distressed shipment charges are in addition to other applicable charges, including but not limited to, set out of train, misdescription, or other amounts stated in the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide.
